It’s clear to me now why UT chose this book for its math major classes. The text makes a gradual transition from computation in Chapters vectors, matrices, linear systems, inverses, determinants, eigenvalues to the general theory of abstract vector spaces in Chapters span, linear independence, basis and dimension, linear transformations, andrjlli and rangeculminating in deeper material in Chapters orthogonality, complex vector spaces, inner product spaces.
This naturally implies, however, as a previous reviewer stated, that it’s going to be short on applications. Write a product review. Unfortunately, none of those exercises are covered in this manual. Chapter 8 is entirely devoted to additional applications, including graph theory, least-squares techniques, Markov chains, computer graphics, linear differential equations, and quadratic forms. The emphasis in this book is teaching you to think abstractly and work out difficult proofs, which you’re going to need for more advanced math classes.
