It answered questions I didn’t know how to word and expressed my own self absorbed crippled state. This idea was common in the s and carried into our time 2. While I’m not going to argue against including plenty of proof texts, listing them all in the mainline instead of footnotes makes for a jarring reading experience. I also think I was probably interpreting some of his points that I did enjoy in not quite the way he intended To ask other readers questions about Conociendo a Diosplease sign up.

You can only know God if you know Jesus. But the more it went on the less interested I became. With God you can’t hide though, and bits of you are broken before him. Thanks for telling us about the problem. I have read Packer before, and find him to be a bit stuffy and ‘high minded’. Paperback0 pages. Knowing God through the context of a close relationship with the person of Jesus Christ. He is not in such a hurry as we are, and it is not his way to give more light on the future than we need for action in the present, or to guide us more than one step at a time.

I would just avoid this book, it is such a pious snooze-fest. The things is when people are broken in one area they favor the other, like a crippled leg, because it hurts to heal. I have a strong feeling that many, many sermons I’ve heard have either been very strongly “inspired” by this work, e Supposedly the most significant evangelical work published in the latter half of the 20th century.

Ascribing these issues to “modern times” makes Packer sound at best more cantankerous than he needs to be, and at worst like he’s writing borderline nationalist propaganda pining for the good old days. So is this the classic of evangelical thought that I’ve been told it’s supposed to conoiendo

InChristianity Today voted this title one of the top 50 books that have shaped evangelicals. I suppose that says something about me. I think I would have enjoyed this book quite a bit more if I hadn’t spent six months reading.

I know this book is wildly acclaimed, but both my husband and I could not get through it. Without God everything is a bore; He alone can catch our imagination and claim our allegiance without disappointment.
When action is needed, light will come. The ji.packrr point of the book is Packer’s distinction between knowing God and knowing about God.
